Flexible Funding for Plans That Unfold Over Time
A home equity line of credit gives you access to funds during a defined draw period. It can help you manage planned expenses in stages, with the flexibility to repay and borrow again under your loan’s terms.
Draw as Expenses Arise
Access available funds as project costs come due, rather than borrowing everything at once. Minimum initial draws or later withdrawal requirements may apply.
Pay Interest on What You Use
Interest generally applies to your outstanding balance, rather than your entire credit limit. Account fees and other charges may still apply.
Repay and Reuse Available Credit
Paying down principal can restore borrowing capacity during the draw period. Further access remains subject to your agreement and credit availability.
-
01

-
02
Repayment Period
Draws generally end, and you repay the remaining balance under your loan’s terms. Payments may increase.

Questions About Using and Repaying a HELOC
Planning a home equity line of credit in California? These answers cover reusing available credit, repayment, fixed-rate options and closing your account.
Generally, yes. Paying down principal can restore available credit that you may draw again during the draw period, subject to your agreement and credit limit.
Interest-only payments do not restore available credit. Minimum draw requirements may apply, and lenders can freeze or reduce a credit line in certain circumstances.
You generally stop taking new draws and begin repaying the remaining balance under the agreed schedule. Payments may increase, especially if you previously paid only interest.
Some plans require a lump-sum payoff instead. Review the repayment terms before opening the line so you can plan for the change.
Some HELOCs let you convert part or all of an outstanding variable-rate balance to a fixed rate. Availability, minimum conversion amounts, fees and repayment terms vary by lender.
Ask how a conversion affects your payment and available credit. A fixed-rate option is not included with every HELOC.
You can generally pay down or pay off your balance early, but reducing the balance to zero does not necessarily close the account.
Some lenders charge an early closure fee or recover waived closing costs if you close within a specified period. Review your agreement before requesting payoff and closure.
